New Sunderland signing Benjani hopes to get some first-team football under his belt whilst on loan at the club.

The Black Cats swooped to sign the Zimbabwean striker until the end of the season in a deal that was ratified by the Premier League on Tuesday.

Benjani, 31, has only made six appearances forManchester City this term and is looking to make an immediate impact at the Stadium of Light.

"It feels really great to be here and I am very happy with my decision," he told the club's official website.

"I am feeling fit and well and ready to play. I have been injured for a long time in the past, but I have recovered well.

"Now I have a chance to play regularly here and hopefully I will get the time on the pitch.

"The season for them (City) is okay, but not so much for me as I have not been playing. As a player, I need to play and that has been frustrating.

"As a striker, I always want to score in every game. There are some good players here and I am looking forward to playing with them."

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has spoken of his delight at the capture of the City forward, although reveals he is not a direct replacement for Kenwyne Jones, who has been linked with a move away from the club.

Benjani could feature in the Black Cats' league clash with fellow bottom-half side Wigan on Saturday. SkySports
